How Do I Get My Child On a Team?

This is probably the most frequently asked question that FLL Headquarters and our Operational Partners get. Unfortunately, there is not a simple answer. Parents should be aware that FLL is not a drop off program, unlike some organized sports or afterschool programs. Most teams are operated through schools or community organizations for the children that they serve. Or, parents like yourself see their child's interest and the value in the program and start their own team.

If you would prefer to have another adult venture into FLL with you consider using the FIRST TeamUp system. TeamUp is a community-driven system that allows parents, coaches, and mentors to connect with one another to form teams. You can enter your information to search for other adults who are looking to start teams in your area. If idea_in_groupyour search results don't offer up other people in your area, don't get discouraged or think that there are no other teams or interested parents. They just may not have heard that such a system exists. Consider reaching out to your child's school and ask if they can help spread the word that you are looking for others to start a team with. Or, better yet, maybe the school would be willing to partner with you. You'll never know if you don't ask!
